OPEN WATER SWIMMING

INTRODUCTION TO OPEN WATER SWIMMING

This lesson is designed for those with little or no experience of swimming outside. I love introducing people to the joys of swimming outside safely.

The lesson is available individually or in groups of up to 3 people and is 45 minutes long.

The lesson is available throughout the year with or without wetsuits.

The session covers

· Welcome

· Key safety points and kit

· Acclimatisation and summary of physiological changes that happen to our bodies when we get cold

· Water entry

· Basic open water skills

· Water exit and re-warming

· De-brief

Kate Steels - Trainer

Kate is a qualified Level 2 STA Open Water Coach. She has experience of coaching introductions to open water, Ice Swimming and marathon swimming. She is currently training a group of 6 competitive club teenagers to swim a relay across the English Channel in 2021.

Kate is the Chair of the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) Great Britain and Secretary to the Global Board.

As an experienced Ice Swimmer she has competed in 3 IISA World Championships gaining podium age group positions. Additionally she successfully completed 8 Ice Miles including an Ice Zero.

In 2020 Kate was inducted into the Ice Swimming Hall of Fame.

Kate is also a marathon swimmer. She has swam the English Channel Solo (in a time of 13hours 5 mins), Lake Zurich and around Manhattan, New York.
